Innovative COVID relief that brought the games community together

Organizations: Feminist Frequency and its program Games and Online Harassment Hotline, Take This, International Game Developers Association, and Global Game Jam

Team Members: Ariel Glassman

The COVID-19 pandemic hit the gaming industry hard, imperiling the futures of four nonprofits that worked on mental health, anti-abuse support, and racial and gender equity in the gaming community. In 2020, Ariel stepped in to lead these organizations through the creation of the Stay In the Game Relief Fund, a collaborative campaign to help them all survive the pandemic. Ariel developed the strategy for bringing together four nonprofits with different missions, impact models and fundraising strengths to come together to raise over $100,000 from gamers and game companies. She crafted the campaign plan, content, and strategy for leveraging corporate matching challenges throughout the campaign. Stay in the Game Relief Fund was nominated for Givebutter’s “Most Inspiring COVID Relief Campaign” at its Toasty Awards in February 2021. You can listen to Ariel dissect the entire campaign on episode 21 of the Nonprofit Problem Solver podcast
